Callun has over 10 years of practical experience litigating a wide spectrum of legal issues across diverse areas of law, with a particular emphasis on commercial disputes involving professional advisors. 

Callun acts on behalf of a range of clients, including insurers, corporate clients and private clients to achieve practical and cost effective outcomes.  He has managed various types of litigation involving claims in the Queensland Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court of Queensland, the District Court of Queensland, the Magistrates Court of Queensland and the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal. 

Over the past 7 years Callun has had a particular focus on financial services litigation - specifically, assisting private clients in claims against financial planners, stock brokers and other parties involved in the provision advice to investors.

Callun is highly experienced in representing:

• Insurer clients in defending personal injury claims involving dust diseases and public liability disputes; and
• Corporate clients in debt recovery matters and in commercial disputes.

Relevant Experience

• Investigating and evaluating claims of high value and complexity to achieve prompt, commercial and equitable conclusions for commercial clients.
• Acting on behalf of a commercial client to negotiate an exit to a retail lease on a commercial basis.
• Drafting proceedings in the Magistrates Court in debt recovery actions.
• Defending a large national firm in a claim pursued simultaneously in the District Court and the Magistrates Court.  Callun successfully negotiated a favourable outcome for the client (with costs) in the District Court matter.  The Magistrates Court proceeding is ongoing.
• Callun has extensive experience litigating professional negligence and indemnity disputes involving solicitors, financial advisors, stock brokers, insurance brokers, environmental consultants, property conveyance and accountants.
• He has a track record of proven settlement skills with particular expertise in general and commercial insurance policy advisory work, product liability insurance, public liability, professional indemnity and health law.
• Callun has extensive knowledge and experience in the application of the Insurance Contracts Act 1984 (Cth) and Insurance Code of Practice, the procedural rules contained within the Personal Injuries Proceedings Act 2002 (Qld), the Uniform Civil Procure Rules 1999 (Qld) and the Civil Liability Act 2003 (Qld).
• Experience acting in disputes before the Financial Ombudsman and advising in matters involving consumer actions alleging misleading and deceptive conduct with regard to misleading prospectus, trustee duties, registered and unregistered managed investment schemes.
• Defending numerous public liability and product liability claims for personal injuries.
